Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture has signaled it may review Enrique Iglesias’ upcoming performances for compliance with national traditions and legislation, focusing in part on the singer’s onstage interactions with fans.

Vice Minister of Culture Kanat Iskakov told reporters on the sidelines of Parliament that the ministry will monitor adherence to ethical standards during the concerts.

«We will discuss this with our colleagues to ensure there are no actions that violate our laws or conflict with our traditions and culture,» Iskakov said.

He added that while he does not closely follow the Spanish singer’s work, performers are expected to respect both legal requirements and societal norms.

A signature moment draws scrutiny

For more than two decades, Iglesias has incorporated fan interactions into his shows, often inviting a woman from the audience for a dance that can end with a kiss on the lips. The singer has described the gesture as an expression of appreciation for his fans, though it has periodically sparked controversy.

In 2015, Sri Lanka’s president at the time, Maithripala Sirisena, sharply criticized Iglesias’ show, calling it «uncivilized» and harmful to local culture. He even suggested punishing organizers by whipping them with toxic stingray tails.

Concerts planned for fall 2026

Enrique Iglesias is scheduled to perform in Almaty and Astana in fall 2026.
