According to the woman’s account, a small child in the household allegedly placed the kitten inside the washing machine drum. She said she did not notice the animal and ran a full wash cycle lasting about an hour.

She also claimed that the child may have previously put the kitten in the freezer of a non-functioning refrigerator.

Public reaction

The video spread rapidly across Kazakh social media, prompting widespread backlash. Many users called for accountability, urging authorities to investigate possible animal cruelty and the living conditions of other pets in the household.

At the same time, the woman reported receiving insults and threats online. She maintains that the incident was accidental and unintentional, noting that the family keeps other animals.

Some commenters said the video showed little visible remorse and criticized the decision to publish graphic content. Others urged that remaining pets be rehomed.

Legal response

Police said the woman was held administratively liable on April 19 for violating Kazakhstan’s animal welfare regulations. She was fined 10 monthly calculation indices, equivalent to roughly $90.
