A villa owned by the family of world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli has been robbed in Italy. According to preliminary estimates, thieves stole jewelry, luxury watches, cash and designer handbags worth nearly €500,000.
The burglary took place in the resort town of Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany. The villa was unoccupied at the time, as it had been rented to an American family who had gone out to spend the evening in town.
According to investigators, the intruders appear to have gained entry after the villa was not properly locked and the alarm system was not activated, making it easier for them to carry out the theft.
Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage from across the town and working to identify those responsible.
The Bocelli family owns several villas in Tuscany, some of which are rented to affluent tourists during the holiday season. Authorities say one of these rental properties was targeted in the burglary.
