Ferrari’s controversial Luce sells out in China

The Ferrari Luce, the iconic Italian brand’s first electric vehicle, has proven to be a commercial success in China despite sparking heated debate among fans following its debut. According to CarNewsChina, all 88 cars allocated for the local market have already found buyers.
In China, the Ferrari Luce is priced at nearly 4 million yuan ($588,395), about 7% less than in Europe.
Rumors circulating online claimed that purchasing a Luce would give customers quicker access to exclusive Ferrari models. However, the company later denied the claims.

Chinese electric cars are faster and cheaper
In several key performance metrics, the Luce is outperformed by several Chinese models that cost several times less.
Ferrari, however, emphasized that the Luce was not designed as a supercar but as a luxurious five-seat grand tourer.
Why the Luce sold out?
According to Chinese media, Luce’s main appeal for affluent local buyers was its status rather than its technical performance. Priced at nearly 4 million yuan, the car remains a status symbol among China’s wealthiest buyers.
Despite the growing popularity of local brands, Ferrari’s success demonstrates that demand for exclusive European cars in China remains strong.
At the same time, the electric Zeekr 001 FR proved faster than both Ferrari and BMW in the quarter-mile, confirming that Chinese sports cars are already capable of competing with established global brands.
