Greek company weighs dairy production in Kazakhstan

Greek company Desserta Hellas is considering establishing cheese and other dairy production in Kazakhstan. The government is ready to support the project.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov discussed the proposed production project with the company’s executives, Athanasios Platanias and Josef Braunshofer.
The talks focused on the prospects for implementing an investment project to establish dairy and cheese production in Kazakhstan. Desserta Hellas representatives reaffirmed their interest in establishing a production facility and long-term cooperation with Kazakh partners.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the state of Kazakhstan’s dairy industry, the availability of raw materials, existing government support measures for investors and opportunities to produce high-value-added products.
Saparov said Kazakhstan is interested in expanding cooperation with Greece in the agro-industrial sector. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural trade between Kazakhstan and Greece increased by 12% year-on-year in 2025.
Saparov added that 64 cheese producers and 182 milk-processing facilities, with a combined annual processing capacity of around 2.7 million tonnes of milk, operate in Kazakhstan.
According to the minister, the government supports agricultural processing projects, including subsidies for the purchase of raw materials used in the production of value-added products, reimbursement of up to 25% of investment costs, interest rate subsidies on loans, and preferential financing of working capital at an annual rate of 5%.
