Nine months after the high-profile Louvre heist, the museum’s administration has opened the doors of the Apollo Gallery for the first time. Kursiv LifeStyle takes a look at how it appears without the famous French crown jewels.
According to Reuters, the gallery reopened to visitors on July 22. However, the crown jewels, which had previously been its main attraction, were not returned to the gallery. Instead, they will be displayed in another part of the museum with enhanced security.
Louvre Director Christophe Leribault said the collection was relocated to provide better protection for the exhibits. France’s Culture Minister Catherine Pégard called the gallery’s reopening a symbol of a new chapter for the museum after «a trauma for the whole world.»
Visitors can now only admire the gallery’s interior and portraits of historical figures. The Apollo Gallery is considered one of the Louvre’s most famous halls. It was created in the 17th century during the reign of the young Louis XIV.
The theft of the Louvre’s crown jewels took place in the early hours of Oct. 19, 2025. According to French media, the thieves needed only a few minutes to steal eight historic pieces of jewelry worth $102 million from the museum. Photos that later surfaced online, purportedly showing the charming thieves, were subsequently revealed to be fake.
