Kazakhstani footballer Dastan Satpayev scores his first goal for Chelsea

Kazakhstan’s 17-year-old footballer Dastan Satpayev scored his first goal for Chelsea as Xabi Alonso‘s side beat Western Sydney Wanderers 6-4 in the opening exhibition match of the club’s Australia and Asia tour.

Chelsea’s starting lineup for its first preseason friendly, excluding the training-ground friendlies, could be considered experimental. The coaching staff decided to give the new signings a look. Former FC Kairat player Dastan Satpayev started on the left side of midfield wearing No. 36, though he frequently drifted into central areas during the match.

Satpayev opened the scoring in the 7th minute, getting past the defense to convert a pass from deep by Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and beat goalkeeper Jordan Holmes — his first goal for the club world champions.

The Australian club responded in the 13th minute as Anthony Pantazopoulos pulled level, before Aydan Hammond netted in the 32nd minute to make it 2-1.

Build-up of Chelsea’s second goal started on the left flank. In the 37th minute, Satpayev found Dário Essugo with a sharp pass near the edge of the box. Essugo combined with Reggie Walsh before equalizing at 2-2.

After half-time, the Sydney club took the lead once again. In the 62nd minute, Dylan Scicluna produced a solo effort inside the opponent’s box to make it 3-2. Xabi Alonso then made numerous substitutions, including Satpayev, who was replaced by Jamie Gittens — the substitute pulling level at 3-3 in the 66th minute.

In the closing minutes, the two sides exchanged goals through Awan Lual and João Pedro. The latter also completed a hat trick, sealing the match at 6-4.

Chelsea will face Tottenham Hotspur on Aug. 1, Juventus on Aug. 5 in Hong Kong and AC Milan on Aug. 8 in Jakarta. The tour will conclude with a match against Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim on Aug. 9.

Satpayev’s transfer from FC Kairat to Chelsea was announced in February 2025. The deal was estimated at €4.3 million, including bonuses.

Before leaving for England, the forward made 58 appearances for the Almaty club, scoring 26 goals and providing 10 assists.
