Starting Sept. 1, 2026, Kazakhstan will introduce mandatory digital labeling for beer and beer-based beverages sold in glass bottles, according to the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance.

Ban on unlabeled beer

Beer and beer-based beverages produced or imported on or after Sept. 1 must carry a Data Matrix labeling code.

The labeling requirement is being introduced in stages:

  • Feb. 1, 2026 — beer sold in kegs.
  • Sept. 1, 2026 — beer and beer-based beverages in glass bottles.
  • Jan. 1, 2027 — beer and beer-based beverages in cans.

«Going forward, full traceability of products will be ensured through electronic registration and documentary confirmation when products are transferred between market participants,» the committee noted.

The committee said digital labeling will make it possible to track products from manufacturers or importers through the retail stage, contributing to greater transparency in the market.

What market participants need to do

Beer market participants must register with the Information System for Marking and Traceability of Goods (IS MPT) through the tanba.markirovka.kz portal and begin creating product cards. The committee recommends completing the registration process in advance to ensure that labeling codes can be obtained on time.

However, unlabeled beer produced before the applicable mandatory labeling deadline may continue to be sold for one year.
