Dunkin’, the well-known American coffee and doughnut chain, is returning to Almaty a decade after leaving the Kazakhstani market. Almaty residents have already spotted the brand’s signage at the intersection of Kunaev and Gogol streets, where a new location is set to open.

The chain’s menu features coffee, doughnuts and other baked goods. In 2019, the brand dropped the word «Donuts» from its name, adopting the shortened «Dunkin’» name. It remains unclear when the new location will open or how many outlets the chain plans to operate in Almaty and other Kazakhstani cities.

According to Forbes Kazakhstan, Almaty residents are already familiar with the chain. A decade ago, Dunkin’ doughnuts were sold at locations near popular supermarkets in Almaty. In 2015, there was even an attempt to launch a delivery service in Almaty, although the chain had no physical locations in the city at the time. The products later disappeared from the Kazakhstani market.

The brand’s history dates back to 1948, when William Rosenberg opened a small coffee and doughnut shop called Open Kettle in Quincy, Massachusetts. After noticing that coffee and doughnuts were among its most popular items, Rosenberg renamed the business Dunkin’ Donuts in 1950. The company later grew into one of the most recognizable American coffee and doughnut chains, with more than 14,000 locations across nearly 40 markets worldwide.
