Tokayev meets Rybakina, praises her conduct on and off the court

Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Elena Rybakina following her victory at the 2026 U.S. Open and her rise to the No. 1 spot in the WTA world rankings.

Tokayev congratulated Rybakina on her achievement, describing it as historic for Kazakhstani sports. The U.S. Open title marked Rybakina’s third Grand Slam victory.

«Following your victories, our children are showing interest in tennis; many of them are signing up for training programs, aspiring to become champions themselves. You set a positive example for our children, and that is a very good thing to see. It is crucial for our children’s future that they engage in sports. Three Grand Slam victories will forever remain in the annals of tennis history. I believe you will not stop here and will continue your winning streak,» Tokayev said.

The president also spoke specifically about Rybakina’s conduct both on and off the court.

«You conduct yourself admirably on the court and in your interactions with others. I always note your exceptional character and poise. This is also of great importance, particularly in terms of presenting Kazakhstan as a developed and civilized nation that supports sports — and tennis in particular,» he said.

Rybakina thanked the president for his personal support and attention to the development of tennis in Kazakhstan. She expressed pride in representing the country on the international stage and said she intends to continue pursuing further success.

Following the meeting, Tokayev awarded Rybakina the Order of Barys, 3rd Class, for her outstanding sporting achievements and significant contribution to the development and promotion of tennis in Kazakhstan.

On Sept. 13, Rybakina won the U.S. Open for the first time in her career, defeating Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Following the tournament, Rybakina officially rose to No. 1 in the WTA rankings.
