Dubai has once again become a place to break world records. Joyalukkas Jewellery has unveiled a giant pair of gold earrings named Mayura Sahasra, which can be translated from Sanskrit as «a thousand peacocks.» Kursiv LifeStyle looks at the details.
The earrings set two Guinness World Records: the heaviest and the largest pair of gold earrings.
The earrings weigh 16.514 kilograms and are made of 22-carat gold, making them five times heavier than the previous record-holding pair. They measure 1.215 meters in length and 0.682 meters in diameter.
Fifty-five craftsmen worked on the earrings over several months. The piece is shaped like traditional South Asian jhumka bell earrings and decorated with a peacock-feather motif.
Where and when
The record was officially registered on Oct. 12. On Oct. 24, the earrings were ceremonially unveiled in Dubai in the presence of the minister of economy.
Where to see them
The earrings are on public display at the Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas showroom in Dubai Gold District, where visitors can see them free of charge.
The showroom is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The brand seems to have a penchant for gigantism. The showroom itself is the largest in the Middle East, and a giant bracelet that visitors can walk through stands at its center.
