Authorities in Kyrgyzstan have proposed implementing total control over internet traffic, including a potential ban on the gaming platform Roblox. The government also aims to restrict access to online casinos, pornographic websites and other «undesirable» resources, 24.kg reported.

Kairat Mamatov, chairman of the State Service for Regulation and Supervision of the Financial Market of Kyrgyzstan, outlined the proposal during a radio program.

«We need to allocate funds and bring all internet traffic under total control. I believe it is necessary to implement filters. For instance, in China, internet traffic is strictly controlled — when we visit, many of our applications simply don’t work,» Mamatov said.

According to the official, existing restrictions have failed to act as a firewall against prohibited content. Kyrgyz citizens continue to access foreign online casinos using VPNs and other methods to bypass these restrictions.

Mamatov claimed that some citizens have lost large sums of money, vehicles and even real estate because of gambling.

Calls to block Roblox

A large part of the official’s speech focused on Roblox, a gaming platform popular among children.

«Members of the Jogorku Kenesh are already raising the issue of blocking such resources. As far as I am know, Roblox has already been banned in Turkey. Therefore, the Ministry of Digital Development needs to explore the possibility of filtering internet traffic,» he noted.

At the same time, Mamatov acknowledged that establishing such a system would require significant budgetary expenditure and could trigger public discontent. He drew a parallel to the public outcry that followed the blocking of TikTok in Kyrgyzstan.

That said, Mamatov didn’t stop there and proposed creating a comprehensive system to monitor internet threats, strengthening coordination between government agencies and expanding cybersecurity units.

In January 2026, Kyrgyz MP Zhanybek Amatov came up with the idea of restricting children’s access to Roblox and Minecraft. At the time, he cited their interactions with strangers during gaming sessions, as some of these individuals could potentially be malicious actors. For example, some children use their parents’ bank cards to make payments, Amatov noted.

Kyrgyzstan blocked TikTok in April 2024. This action followed a request from the State Committee for National Security, which cited a lack of effective moderation of content that could harm children.

Additionally, on Oct. 28, MP Saltanat Amanova proposed blocking all pornographoc websites nationwide.
