One in three tumors in Kazakhstan is now detected at stage 0 or stage 1, when the chances of successful treatment are highest. Key figures for the first nine months of 2026 were announced at a meeting of the coordination council at the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology.
Since the beginning of the year, Kazakhstan’s cancer mortality rate has declined to 58.8 deaths per 100,000 people. The share of cancer cases detected at early stages 0 and 1 reached 34.4%, exceeding the target of 33.8%.
More than 3.2 million screening tests were conducted during the reporting period, primarily for breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer screening.
As a result, the detection rates of breast and cervical abnormalities increased, while colorectal screening enabled the timely identification of precancerous conditions.
Meanwhile, mobile medical units continue to serve residents of rural communities in remote areas. More than 14,000 people underwent medical examinations in the Aktobe, Almaty and Kyzylorda regions.
The examinations identified 46 cancer cases, 271 precancerous conditions and more than 660 cases of inflammatory and other diseases. Two additional mobile medical units have begun operating in the Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.
Kazakhstan is also developing high-tech cancer care. In the first nine months of the year, doctors at specialized endoscopy centers across the country performed more than 87,000 diagnostic procedures and over 5,000 minimally invasive surgeries.
