The country needs new parliament elections, Maia Sandu supporters say

Yesterday several political parties organized a protest rally at the Square of Great National Assembly in the center of Chisinau.

Thousands of people who support the new president-elect of the country, along with the political parties Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), Platform DA, Our Party, Democratic Party and Pro Moldova, have raised their voices to demand new parliamentary elections.

The main reason for the protest is the parliament majority that has been formed by the Socialist Party of Moldova’s former president Igor Dodon, another party Shor and some deputies from the Democratic Party.

The vice-chairman of the PAS party Igor Grosu accused Dodon and his fellow mogul Ilan Shor of an attempt to steal the victory of PAS.

«We won’t give up. We need to dissolve the parliament, we need new elections,» he stated.

According to the politician, the key element in this process is the resignation of the government.

«The prime minister must show that he is a real man! He must resign and let new parliamentary elections happen. This step will help clean the parliament from gangsters. All these deputies need to talk only with public prosecutors!» Grosu said.

Due to the protest, traffic in the center of Chisinau was stopped. All rally participants wore their face masks, and hundreds of policemen that protect the government’s building did not intervene in the event.

The initiator of the mass protest was newly president-elect Maia Sandu, who called on the people to demand government resignation and new parliamentary elections.

«We need to stop this attempt to seize power. This government and parliament must leave. We will take to the streets, the central square of Chisinau to tell the thieves that their time is over. But they can’t just leave, we need to drum them out,» Sandu stated.

On November 15, Moldova’s former prime minister Maia Sandu, the leader of the PAS political party received 57.72% of the vote, while then-president Igor Dodon got 42.28%. He should leave on December 23, 2020. The inauguration of the new president of Moldova will be held the following day on December 24.
