In Tbilisi, people took to the streets near the parliament demanding the government to quit, according to RBK.
People have started to protest when it became known that Alexander Lashkarava, journalist and operator of the TV channel Pirvely, was beaten and died. On July 5 he participated in an LGBTQ march where participants were attacked by their opponents. According to the officials, there were about 50 attacks on media representatives including cameramen, journalists, and photographers.
Many of those who took to the streets in Tbilisi blame Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for failure to use his authority to protect media workers. They want the government to investigate the death of Lashkarava and all other cases of attack on media workers and the march participants.
Similar protests are also happening in such Georgian towns as Batumi, Zugdidi, Gori, Rustavi and Telavi.
Georgia is well known for its active protests on various political occasions. For example, at the end of February local political opposition decided to set non-stop protests until Nika Melia, the head of the United National Movement party and deputy of parliament, resigns from office.
