Uzbekistan and the EU increase bilateral turnover

Exports between the two sides are increasing as well

Brussels fully supports Uzbekistan in its endeavor to implement massive economic reforms, according to Terhi Hakala, special representative for Central Asia. She made this statement during the meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.               

«As the special representative highlighted, the E.U. values and supports the continuation of irreversible reforms in the New Uzbekistan, which are aimed at further democratization and social and economic transformation of the country,» the press service of the Uzbek president reported.

Over the first nine months of the year, the turnover between Uzbekistan and the E.U. increased by 15%. At the same time, Uzbekistan has increased its exports to Europe by 70%. The two sides have established more than 1,000 joint projects and enterprises. Currently, investors from Europe are present in different sectors of the Uzbek economy including the energy sector, car industry and agriculture.

Earlier this year, Uzbekistan reported a 22% increase in the turnover between the country and the EU over the period from January to May. The most popular products the country is exporting to Europe are chemical products (sixfold increase in export), textiles (+90%) and food products (+65%).
