President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has suggested broadcasting important plenary sessions of the national parliament on a state TV channel. He made this statement while giving a speech to the parliament.
He noted that the cabinet is going to be beholden to the parliament. Therefore, ministers have to possess not only professional knowledge but also a set of skills that can let them maintain their interests and opinions in front of the parliament clearly and convincingly.
Nowadays, people have an opportunity to observe all mistakes the cabinet can make and help to correct them, according to Tokayev.
«Today, we can see all of the parliamentary sessions online. This practice has proven to be very efficient as media workers and regular citizens can watch what is going on in the parliament. I believe that we should also broadcast the most important plenary sessions on a state TV channel live,» the president said.
In this case, debates within the parliament might attract the attention of different people all over the country. This would help Kazakhstan’s society to embrace the culture of dialog and form new standards of public policy.
«Being a member of the parliament isn’t about having a nice job. This is about high responsibility and many obligations. People have voted for you. Citizens trust you and have put their hopes on you,» Tokayev highlighted.
Mazhilis broadcasts its plenary sessions on its website and users can choose Kazakh or Russian languages to listen to the debates.
