President Tokayev is on visit to China

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in the People’s Republic of China for a three-day visit, the president’s press service reported. Today, on May 17th, he’s turned 70 and the Chinese side welcomed him with open arms.

Tokayev is expected to meet President Xi Jinping today. Tomorrow he will meet with heads of leading Chinese companies and attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Kazakhstan’s logistical center in the dry port of Xi’an. On May 19, President Tokayev will take part in the Central Asia – China summit and the opening ceremony of Kazakhstan’s Consulate General in Xi’an.

Earlier this week the president’s press service revealed that he won’t celebrate his anniversary.

«Many journalists are curious whether the president is going to celebrate his birthday. We received a lot of such questions. With that said I can confirm that no special events are expected. The president doesn’t want them and this is his principled stance,» Ruslan Zheldibay, the president’s official spokesperson stated.

President Tokayev doesn’t like to celebrate his birthday as his family has never done so.
