According to Peter Foster, president and CEO of the Air Astana airline, the company is planning to obtain three long-rage Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft over 2025-2026.

«Currently, we have 43 aircraft with an average age of 4.3 years. We are expecting seven additional aircraft by the end of this year. Moreover, our fleet is expected to be expanded to 64 aircraft including three long-range Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Two of them will be delivered in 2025 and one in 2026,» Foster said.

He also reported that Air Astana and its subsidiary FlyArystan operate more than 65 flights.

«This year FlyArystan is expected to launch a new flight between Astana and Doha. Air Astana is also going to start flying from Almaty to Tel Aviv in September this year and to Jeddah in October. Next year, we are going to launch new flights to Tokyo, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,» the airline’s president said.

Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Marat Karabayev also confirmed that Kazakhstani airlines are going to launch regular flights to Mumbai, Hong Kong, Vienna and New York in 2024-2025. By that time Air Astana will have been the only airline in the country with long-range aircraft in its fleet capable of reaching New York.

According to Foster, Air Astana is planning to operate at least three flights a week from Almaty to New York and then expand this frequency to five flights. If this destination is popular, the airline will fly to New York every day.

Despite Kazakhstan’s continuous support of the open sky regime since 2019, American airlines haven’t shown interest in direct air travel to Kazakhstan. Air Astana was expected to obtain the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2023 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was forced to postpone the deal.

As of today, Air Astana has a fleet of 19 A320, 16 A321, three Boeing 767-300 and five Embraer 190LR.
