Uzbekistan and World Bank strengthen bilateral cooperation

The two sides have significantly strengthened their cooperation

The portfolio of joint projects by Uzbekistan and the World Bank has grown threefold since the beginning of bilateral cooperation. By 2026, the two sides are going to launch new projects worth $4 billion, according to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the World Bank Antonella Bassani to discuss new ways to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank in order to promote social and economic reforms in the country.

Currently, Uzbekistan and the international organization are implementing a range of projects worth $11 billion. The World Bank has been supporting Uzbekistan’s reforms of the health system, agriculture, banking system, education, energy sector, transportation and the process of digitalization for years.

For instance, the World Bank has confirmed that it will provide Uzbekistan with $296 million for increasing energy efficiency and restoring forestry.
