According to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan will send $1 million worth of humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.

During the summit of the Organization of Turkic States, President Tokayev said that it is necessary to increase the role of mediation because «the situation has gotten worse» around the Turkic countries.

«The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is still going on in the North, in the Middle East we see the same between Israel and Palestine. Instability continues in Afghanistan. The problem of illegal migration is getting worse in the West,» he said.

How is Kazakhstan going to help the Gaza Strip?

«Civilians in the Gaza Strip, especially children and the elderly are the victims of the current confrontation. The key task is to ensure their safety. In this regard, I decided to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people for $1 million,» Tokayev announced.

What does Kazakhstan propose to do to resolve the conflict in the Middle East?

According to the president, problems that haven’t been solved for decades can’t be solved through violence and terrorist attacks. This is «totally unacceptable.» Kazakhstan «strongly condemns» such methods.

«In this regard, we call for resolving any conflicts exclusively through peaceful negotiations and diplomatic dialog. The territorial integrity of all states and non-interference in domestic affairs are key priorities for us. It is important to follow U.N. Security Council resolutions and comply with international law,» Tokayev underlined.

The context. On October 7, Hamas attacked Israel and invaded the southern region of the country. Israel responded with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and also cut off supplies of goods, electricity and fuel. On November 2, Al Jazeera reported that more than 9,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis were killed so far during this new stage of the conflict.

There are 67 citizens of Kazakhstan stranded in the Gaza Strip, who beg the country’s government to help them leave. These are mainly women who married Palestinian citizens. On October 22, some media outlets reported that a Kazakhstani woman and her daughter had died as a result of bomb shelling.
