Kazakhstan’s population reaches 20 million. President Tokayev congratulates his fellow citizens

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakhstanis on the occasion that the country’s population has reached 20 million, according to the press service of the president.

What happened? Kazakhstan’s population has reached 20 million.

«Congratulations to my fellow citizens for this milestone event! Happy family is the foundation of the nation’s prosperity and sustainable growth of the entire country. The government will continue its work on promoting family values, protecting maternity and childhood,» Tokayev wrote on his account on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In September 2023, the country’s population was expected at 19.9 million people. Since the beginning of the year, Kazakhstan reported an overall surplus in population of 177,919 people. About 12.3 million Kazakhstanis live in big cities, while 7.5 live in rural areas.

On November 1, 2022, the country reported a population of 19.7 million.
