East Mineral Resources wants to extract zinc and copper from Irtysh Copper Smelter waste

East Mineral Resources is going to start processing the dump from the Irtysh Copper Smelter to launch production of zinc and copper over the period from 2024 to 2043.

According to the company, the processing operations will be launched at the right bank of the Irtysh River in the Glubokovskoy district of East Kazakhstan 28 kilometers northwest of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. The project is going to be implemented over the period from 2024 to 2043 by the open-cut method with around 300,000 tons processed per day.

As East Mineral Resources noted, the content of copper in the ore is expected at 600 tons in 2024, 710 tons in 2025, 1,440 tons in 2026, 1,440 in 2027-2042 and 1,230 in 2043. Concerning zinc, the company is expecting 6,740 tons of zinc in 2024, 6,810 tons in 2025, 13,860 tons in 2026, 13,860 tons in 2027-2042 and 11,830 tons in 2043.

Given that all these figures are preliminary, the company is going to examine the exact number of reserves and find out how much zinc and copper are in the metallurgical dump.
