Kazakhstani swordsmen have obtained a pass to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It will be the first Olympics when Kazakhstani sportsmen will perform as a full team, according to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kazakhstan.

In the battle for Olympic qualification, Kazakhstani athletes competed against their counterparts from South Korea, who were trying to get a spot in the World Cup in Tbilisi.

«In eightfinal, South Korea lost to Czechia and ended their participation in the World Cup in Tbilisi. Prior to the team tournament, our team had a lead of 26 points over their South Korean rivals. Now, the Kazakhstani team has pulled significantly ahead and is out of reach,» the NOC reported.

Kazakhstani swordsmen became the second team in Asia, after Japan, to receive a direct quota for the 2024 Summer Games. They have been ranked as one of the four strongest teams in the region.

“This is a historic achievement for our athletes. Kazakhstani swordsmen have never participated in the Olympics as a full team before. Four of our athletes – Ruslan Kurbanov, Vadim Sharlaimov, Elmir Alimzhanov and Erlik Sertay – will represent Kazakhstan in Paris,” the committee announced.

Kazakhstan has already received an official invitation to participate in the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris, scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The NOC is currently led by Gennady Golovkin, a prominent boxer who replaced Timur Kulibayev in this position. His candidacy has already been supported by the NOC’s General Assembly.
