Sany Group Co. Ltd, a Chinese industrial and construction company, is considering constructing a new facility in Kazakhstan to assemble its towers, blades and nacelles for wind turbines. This statement was made after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Xiang Wenbo, a rotating chairman of Sany Group Co. Ltd. The Chinese company is already constructing a one-gigawatt wind power station in Kazakhstan.

The two sides have discussed a wide range of issues related to joint implementation of green energy projects. For instance, Kazakhstan wants to launch the manufacturing of special machinery and wind turbine components in conjunction with the Chinese investor.

«We have proposed the Chinese company to consider opening a regional R&D center in Kazakhstan to facilitate its operation in the EEU market,» the Akorda said in a statement.

While in China on an official visit, Tokayev also met with Liu Mingsheng, chairman of State Power Investment Corporation, a subsidiary of which, China Power International Holding, operates in Kazakhstan. Over the past five years, it built a wind power station in Zhanatas and a solar power station in Karaganda.

Now, the Chinese investor will allocate more than $1 billion to construct two wind power stations in the Jambyl and Pavlodar regions with a combined capacity of one gigawatt. Furthermore, the company will examine other prospects for large hydroenergy and combined cycle gas turbine projects within Kazakhstan.

So far, there are 147 renewable energy facilities in Kazakhstan with a total capacity of 2.9 gigawatts. In February 2024, the county government said it would expand the capacity of these energy facilities by 26.5 gigawatts by 2035 through the reconstruction of existing stations and construction of new ones. For example, the country plans to build several wind power stations with a capacity of 9 gigawatts by 2035. Five companies, namely Masdar, Total Energies, AcwaPowerCompany, HEVEL and CPIH, will build one gigawatt renewable power station each. Also, several regions of Kazakhstan will launch eight smaller renewable power facilities with a capacity of 200 to 1,100 megawatts.
