More foreign tourists find Kazakhstan interesting place to visit

Kazakhstan reported an increased inflow of tourists. In 2023, more than one million foreigners visited the country, a 17% increase over 928,000 in 2022.

At the same time, the number of domestic tourists increased by 647,000 people compared to 2022, reaching 7.5 million, which is 1.7 million more than in 2019.

The vast majority of tourists chose Almaty as a leading destination in Kazakhstan. In 2023, more than two million tourists, including 540,000 foreigners, visited the city.

According to the Bureau of National Statistics, in 2023, the city of Almaty spent $4.7 million on tourism development.

The agency reported that «for every tenge spent from public funds, authorities received 34.14 tenge in the form of taxes, which proves that the tourism sector is one of the contributors to the city’s economy.»

This year, Almaty authorities have allocated another $5.1 million to develop tourism.
