President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed General Prosecutor Berik Assylov to continue the search for assets illegally withdrawn from Kazakhstan and reclaim them, according to the Akorda.
During a meeting with Tokayev on April 30, Assylov told the president that the General Prosecutor’s Office has been using artificial intelligence to reclaim illegally withdrawn assets and search for criminals.
For instance, the agency is testing a smart analytical platform for searching and tracking illegally withdrawn assets. In addition, law enforcement officials detained 605 people who were on the wanted list. All of this happened with the help of different tools, including information systems.
«The president has instructed us to continue using a wide range of advanced technologies in order to search and reclaim assets illegally withdrawn from the country. He underlined that it is very important to ensure that the constitutional rights of citizens during investigations as well as the rights of investors and the business community are protected through public prosecutor’s supervision,» the press service of the president said in a statement.
The State Commission on Public Asset Recovery has already approved a return to the state revenue of an additional $90 million. The government plans to allocate this money for social projects including flood damage control.
Over the past two years, Kazakhstani authorities reclaimed more than $2.2 billion in assets, according to the press service of the prime minister. About $4.9 million out of this money was allocated for flood control. Among the people who return illegally obtained assets back to the government are Kairat Satybaldy, nephew of the ex-president of Kazakhstan, Ex-Minister of Culture and Sport Arystanbek Mukhamediuly and people related to the criminal case of a company called Operator ROP.
