President Tokayev wants SCO to fight against “three forces of evil”
According to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should be constantly focusing on the fight against the «three forces of evil» – terrorism, separatism and extremism. He made this statement during a meeting with foreign ministers from the SCO member states.
«Kazakhstan is fully committed to expanding our cooperation in this sphere. The cooperation program on the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism is a practical step in this direction,» the president highlighted.
He also noted that the SCO Anti-Drug Strategy will promote mutual actions aimed at countering drugs and financial sources for terrorism.
«All these achievements are vivid examples of coordinated and specific steps on promoting stability and security in the SCO region,» Tokayev explained.
The president of Kazakhstan brings up this topic every time he attends SCO meetings. For instance, in April he met with secretaries of SCO member states. During that meeting, he said that the threat of international terrorism is growing. This is why more decisive and systematic actions are needed.
Tokayev also recalled that the SCO was established to counter the three forces of evil and promote regional stability and security.
The president proposed adopting a cooperation program against terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2025-2027.
The SCO promotes security issues and economic cooperation between states of the Asian region. The organization has nine member states: Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Iran.
