According to its press service Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) is going to build a container hub in the port of Aktau in conjunction with Lianyungang Port, one of the biggest port groups in China.

This arrangement has been reached during an official visit of Damir Kozhakhmetov, general director of KTZ Express, to China. In particular, he met with representatives of Lianyungang Port to discuss the joint project.

«Once the container hub is built, we will be able to create the necessary infrastructure to process and ship container freight to different destinations through the Aktau Port, as well as to form container stock and services for countries in the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia,» the company said in a statement.

In late April, Kazakhstan adopted a comprehensive plan for the development of maritime infrastructure for 2024-2028. Under this plan, the construction of the container hub is expected to start this year and to be commissioned in December 2025. In order to implement the project, authorities plan to allocate about $96.4 million of extrabudgetary funds.

This is not the first time that KTZ Express has cooperated with Lianyungang Port. The two companies have already implemented two projects in the sphere of transport logistics: Khorgos Gateway Dryport and a container yard in Lianyungang Port. Both projects play a crucial role in the optimization of logistical processes between the two countries and during cargo transit through Kazakhstan, KTZ underlined.
