Wildberries builds new logistical centers in Almaty and Astana

Wildberries, a popular Russian marketplace, is set to build two logistical centers in Almaty and Astana in 2025, according to a report from the press service of Kazakhstan’s cabinet.

On July 11, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov visited a construction site in Almaty. The new logistical center by Wildberries will have a floor size of more than 100,000 square meters. Construction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.

The Russian company has already invested $27 million into the new logistical center, which is its first major project outside of Russia. Once the center is commissioned, it will help entrepreneurs reduce their costs and boost sales. A similar project will be implemented in the capital city of Astana.

«In 2025, the construction of two state-of-the-art logistical centers will be completed in Almaty and Astana. These logistical centers will not only facilitate the development of businesses and e-commerce in Kazakhstan but will also create new jobs and boost local economies. Specifically, about 4,000 new jobs are expected to be created in Almaty,» said Kazbek Kuzhimov, PR director of Wildberries in Kazakhstan.

The Russian marketplace announced its intent to build a logistical center in Almaty in February 2023, estimating the required investment at $100 million.

According to the Anti-Monopoly Agency, as of the first half of 2023, Kaspi held a market share of 77.1%, followed by Wildberries (17.2%), Jusan Market (4.4%), Halyk Finance (0.5%), Forte Market (0.5%) and Ozon (0.2%).

In early June, Ozon Kazakhstan announced the launch of four fulfillment centers in Kostanay, Aktobe, Atyrau and Shymkent with a combined floor size of 2,000 square meters. In early 2023, the company opened its first logistical center in Astana and a warehouse in Almaty in May 2023.
