Kazakhstan wins two more silver medals in Paris
On the evening of August 7, two more Kazakhstani athletes secured silver medals at the Olympic Games in Paris: boxer Nurbek Oralbay and wrestler Demeu Zhadrayev, as reported by the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
According to the NOC, Oralbay competed against Oleksandr Khyzhniak from Ukraine. Khyzhniak won the first round with a score of 3 to 2. The second round saw the same result for Oralbay. In the third round, the Ukrainian boxer triumphed with a score of 5 to 0, winning by the judges’ split decision. Both athletes fought in the 80-kilogram weight category.
Demeu Zhadrayev reached the final in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 77-kilogram weight category. In the final bout against Nao Kusaka from Japan, he lost with a score of 5 to 2, earning the silver medal.
NOC President Gennady Golovkin congratulated the athletes and their coaches on their achievements.
«On behalf of the National Olympic Committee and myself, I congratulate Nurbek Oralbay on winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games. In the ring with you were not only boxing enthusiasts but all Kazakhstanis. Olympic silver is a very prestigious award. You showed great fights. My congratulations to Nurbek’s coach, Askar Yerkebayev, who guided him to the victory podium,» Golovkin commented on Oralbay’s result. He also noted that this was the boxer’s first Olympics.
Addressing Demeu Zhadrayev, Golovkin said that his silver medal is vivid proof of his consistency and strong morale.
«I genuinely congratulate Zhadrayev on his Olympic silver. This award is proof that consistency, strong spirit and hard work lead to well-deserved success. Thanks to your dedication, the Kazakhstani flag flew at the Olympics once again,» Golovkin said.
The president of the NOC also congratulated Zhadrayev’s coaches.
«I highly appreciate the work of your coaches, Zhumakan Turgambekov and Boranbek Konyratov, who made a significant contribution to your achievement. My congratulations! Thank you for all the positive emotions you gave Kazakhstani fans!» Golovkin emphasized.
Earlier this week, Kazakhstani female boxer Nazym Kyzaibay won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in her bout against the current champion Wu Yu from China in the 50-kilogram category.
