Authorities fine FlyArystan for passengers’ rights violation

The Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan has fined FlyArystan, a low-cost subsidiary of the national air carrier AirAstana, approximately $7,700 for violating passengers’ rights on a delayed Almaty-Astana flight.

According to the Committee, the air carrier did not provide the passengers of the delayed flight with the legally required services. Thus, the passengers were provided with neither accommodation nor transfer to the hotel and back to the airport. As a result, an administrative offense report was filed under Part 2, Article 567 of The Civil Code on Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a fine of $7,692.95.

The Civil Aviation Committee also pointed out that it’s actively working to protect of the rights of passengers flying both domestic and international airlines in terms of the legally required services during the delayed flights.

«Strict compliance with the legislation in terms of the passengers’ rights is one of the key objectives of the Civil Aviation Committee,» the agency stated.

The Civil Aviation Committee highlighted that air carriers will face legal consequences if they violate the legislation.

Last week, the media reported an incident involving FlyArystan, where a 12-year-old girl, Zere Galiyeva, was not allowed on board, separating her from her twin sister. The plane left, leaving her alone in the Astana airport. The situation happened after FlyArystan changed the aircraft to a smaller one with not enough vacant seats. The company later apologized to the young passenger and her mother.
