Airports to appear in resort zones, while airfreight to double in Kazakhstan
During today’s national address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev suggested building airports in the resort zones.
«The runways at the Balkhash and Alakol resort zones have already been renovated. Now, it’s time to unlock the potential of the Katon-Karagay, Zaysan and Kendirli resort zones. This will require building passenger terminals and airports along with well-developed road infrastructure. The Industrial Development Fund should also facilitate acquiring small aircraft for these airports,” he proposed.
The president also emphasized the necessity to make all the projects environmentally friendly to avoid any harm to nature. In his national address, Tokayev also claimed that Kazakhstan is going to increase its air freight processing capacity to 300,000 tons.
“A critical objective is to develop airline hubs. Around 150,000 tons of freight are processed in Kazakhstan. Over the next four years, we can double this figure. In order to achieve this goal, we have to expand our airports’ capabilities in the sphere of cargo transportation,» he said.
In 2023, more than 3.8 million tourists chose Kazakhstani resort zones as their holiday destination. This is 311,000 more people than in the previous year. The hotels in the resort zones earned more than $269 million.
