Kyrgyz and Uzbek leaders want to collaborate in developing mountain ski resorts
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held an informal meeting at the Amirsoy ski resort in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan. During the negotiations the two leaders have agreed to closely cooperate in developing joint projects related to recreational centers and resorts in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Uzbek president reported.
After the meeting, Japarov highly commended the Amirsoy Resort.
«When I visited Amirsoy, it struck me. My colleague Shavkat Mirziyoyev has built this amazing ski resort from scratch. I am speechless. It is simply a great achievement! There are so many jobs that have been created! Millions of tourists come here for leisure. The service level is comparable to that in Europe. Everything is amazing,» he wrote on Facebook.
According to Japarov, 94% of Kyrgyzstan’s territory consists of mountains. Therefore, each of the seven regions in the country could potentially host ski resorts similar to Amirsoy.
«But we have almost none of them. Why? Since the very beginning of our independence, everyone—from regular people to presidents—has been engaged in politics. We used to have political rallies and celebrations nearly every day. We did not pay much attention to our economy, tourism, and other crucial sectors,» Japarov emphasized.
The Amirsoy mountain ski resort in the Tashkent region was opened in 2019, covering 892 hectares. According to some media reports, the total investment in the resort reached €80 million.
On Jan. 23, Zharkynbek Maksutov, the head of the Kyrgyz Courchevel state-owned enterprise, announced an ambitious project involving the construction of the Three Peaks ski resort, the largest in Central Asia with 250 kilometers of ski runs. According to the official, the preparation of design and estimate documentation is underway. The project is planned to consist of three stages, with the first phase set to be completed in December 2026.
