China and Kazakhstan to expand cooperation in agriculture

On March 6, Astana hosted the first meeting of a subcommittee on cooperation in agriculture between Kazakhstan and China, held within the Kazakhstan-China Cooperation Committee. During the video call, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanuly and his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Zhili, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture.
According to the Agropress Telegram channel, the main topics included mutual trading and access to each other’s markets. In 2024, the agricultural trade turnover reached $1.4 billion, marking a 10.5% increase. Both sides emphasized that the partnership is strengthening and, therefore, must be expanded further.
China and Kazakhstan have decided to cooperate in science and technology. They intend to establish joint laboratories and develop innovations in biopharmaceutics and ecology, as well as exchange expertise to bolster the countries’ positions in agriculture.
The two sides also agreed to expand exports of meat, poultry, potatoes and beet pulp. Documents facilitating the entry of Kazakhstani products into the Chinese market will be signed soon, further boosting their mutual trade.
Another joint task for both countries is combating locusts along their shared border. They will jointly monitor the situation, exchange expertise and implement modern crop protection methods.
