Turkish holding eyes major metals, gas deals in Kazakhstan

Ahmet Çalık, head of Turkey’s Çalık Holding, has expressed interest in mining nonferrous metals in Kazakhstan and entering the country’s gas market, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry did not specify the forms of potential cooperation in the gas sector.

«Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu met with Ahmet Çalık, head of Çalık Holding. […] Çalık expressed interest in expanding the holding’s presence in Kazakhstan, including projects to mine nonferrous metals, build a plant to process legumes and oilseeds in the Kostanay region and participate in the gas industry,» the ministry said in a statement.

During the meeting, Nurtleu and Çalık discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly Çalık Holding’s potential investment projects in Kazakhstan. They emphasized collaboration in mineral extraction, agribusiness, energy and logistics.

Çalık Holding is one of Turkey’s largest financial and industrial groups, operating in 34 countries. The company has experience implementing large infrastructure, energy and industrial projects across Central Asia, the Balkans and the Middle East. According to its website, Çalık Holding is involved in gold and polymetallic ore mining and other mineral resource projects. In the energy sector, the company operates in electricity production, distribution and sales, as well as oil and natural gas exploration, production, refining and transportation.
