Kazakhstan responds to Trump’s tariff announcement

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration made an official statement regarding a 27% import tariff recently imposed by the U.S.
The agency stated that a significant share of Kazakhstan’s exports to the U.S. is not subject to additional tariffs, as they fall under the exemption list.
«The core of Kazakhstan’s exports to the U.S. includes crude oil, uranium, silver, and ferroalloys. These categories, which account for 92% of exports, are on the exemption list,» the ministry said in a statement.
Phosphorus, ferrosilicon, lenses, wheat gluten and ammonium nitrate are subject to additional duties.
«Imposed tariffs will affect only 4.8% of Kazakhstan’s total exports to the U.S.,» Kazakhstan’s authorities shared in their estimates.
Kazakhstan has pledged to hold talks with American authorities to discuss the possible removal of additional tariffs on the country’s exports.
Previously, Kursiv.media reported that President Donald Trump announced «reciprocal» tariffs on imported goods from dozens of countries around the world, while excluding the European Union. According to the White House, Kazakhstan imposes 54% duties on U.S. imports.
