The Saratov Tank Structural Steel Plant (Saratov RMK Plant) in Russia has completed construction of a vertical steel tank with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters for Kazakhstan’s Mangistaumunaigas, according to a source familiar with the matter. Notably, the plant had previously exported similar products to Kazakhstan up until 2020.

«Russian oil tank producers are entering the Kazakhstani market once again. The Saratov RMK plant has completed construction of a vertical steel tank with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. The purchaser is a Kazakhstani producer of pipeline components, fittings and couplings in the oil and gas industry,» the source said.

According to the source, the cost of the exported product is estimated at nearly 50 million rubles (approximately $582,500). The purchaser is Saran-based Kazfittingplast, while the final consignee is Mangistaumunaigas. According to eGov, the sole owner of Kazfittingplast is Nina Kulkova. Mangistaumunaigas is a subsidiary of the Dutch Mangistau Investments B.V., which is owned in equal shares (50% each) by the state-operated China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) and KazMunayGas, a subsidiary of the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund.

The tank, weighing 287 tons and standing 17.8 meters tall, is designed to store oil-water emulsion, produced during oil extraction. The key feature of the tank is its spherical frame-shield roof. Unlike flat-roof constructions, it ensures better load resistance by evenly distributing the weight imposed by snow. It also efficiently resists wind and drains away water.

The Saratov RMK plant was founded in 1947. Before going bankrupt in 2020, the facility exported its products to more than 33 countries. New owners of the plant have re-energized it by launching production of new products and boosting the plant’s revenue. In 2024, the plant produced a total of 3,300 tons of insulated tanks, marking a significant increase compared to the 280 tons produced in 2023. The overall annual capacity of the enterprise is 36,000 tons of products. The Saratov RMK plant is managed by Promyshlennye Tekhnologii, a limited liability company owned on a parity basis by Russian citizens Sergey Korneyev and Alexey Kovalchuk.
