Uzbekistan joins EDB to promote investments

Uzbekistan has joined the founding agreement of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the move into law, as reported by the EDB’s press service.
With this accession, Uzbekistan becomes the seventh participant of the bank and its third-largest shareholder, with a share of 10%. The country will now be a full-fledged participant in the EDB’s activities alongside Russia (44.8%), Kazakhstan (37.3%), Belarus (5.2%), Armenia (4.3%), Tajikistan (4.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (4.2%).
«The partnership offers new opportunities for the economic development of Uzbekistan and the entire region. The EDB will support Uzbekistan’s pursuit of sustainable growth and the rapid improvement of the welfare of Uzbek citizens. The bank has already begun working on several investment projects in the country. Some of these will receive funding as early as this year,» said Nikolay Podguzov, chairman of the management board of the EDB.
With Uzbekistan onboard, the EDB will be able to facilitate the development of the country’s transport infrastructure, energy and water sectors, while also speeding up industrial and agricultural growth, the bank emphasized.
The EDB is a multipurpose development institution engaged in investment activities in Eurasia. As of 2025, the bank’s portfolio includes 305 projects totaling $16.5 billion in investments.
