Uzbekistan plans to build the largest oceanarium in Central Asia

According to Davronjon Adilov, deputy minister of construction and housing and communal services of Uzbekistan, the banks of the Chirchik River in Tashkent have been chosen as the future site for Central Asia’s largest oceanarium, as reported by Gazeta.uz, citing the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
The new oceanarium, along with various shopping and entertainment centers, a four-star hotel, and service facilities, will be built in New Tashkent on an area of 20 hectares, Adilov said.
The official is confident that the construction of the oceanarium in New Tashkent will boost the inflow of investment and open new opportunities for Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The project has already been presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Notably, this is not the first oceanarium in Tashkent. In 2022, the Magic Aquarium was opened on the territory of the Magic City family amusement park in the Chilanzar district of the city. Its design resembles the style of the lost city of Atlantis, so that visitors can feel like pioneers.
Moreover, in early April, the administration of the Tashkent region also announced plans to build a $30 million water park with attractions in the Parkent district.
More generally, Uzbekistan has been putting a lot of effort into its tourist infrastructure. Earlier this year, Uzbek authorities reported the completion of the first stage of construction of the Chorvok Darvozasi tourist complex in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region. Once the complex is fully commissioned, it will include residential complexes, hotels, restaurants, and a huge parking lot. In order to make it more earth-friendly, authorities plan to install solar panels on all roofs within the complex.
There are direct air flights between Almaty, Astana and Tashkent. According to Aviata.kz, ticket prices for flights from Almaty to Tashkent at the beginning of May vary from $89 to $141, and from $85 to $96 if you want to travel from Astana to Tashkent.
The construction of New Tashkent, initiated by President Mirziyoyev, began in 2023. This is a new district within the bigger Tashkent, designed to serve as a modern center of attraction for more than two million people. It will be equipped with all necessary infrastructure for life, work and education, such as administrative buildings, schools, universities and cultural institutions. On the other hand, all those multiple buildings which are currently occupied by various ministries and departments will be transformed into hotels, shopping areas and service centers.
