Nikken Sekkei Ltd., a Japanese architectural, planning and engineering firm, will be the key contractor responsible for preparing a new general plan for Bishkek. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev has already officially approved the decision.
Rumors about the Japanese company working on the master plan had been circulating since 2023. Now, it’s official. The government of Kyrgyzstan has approved a proposal by the Bishkek mayor’s office to select Nikken Sekkei as the contractor for the project, as reported by the 24.kg news portal.
The Japanese firm is expected to develop an official community plan outlining how Bishkek will grow and evolve through 2050. The key objective is to transform Kyrgyzstan’s capital into a more vibrant, modern and green city, both for residents and visitors.
Apta.media used a neutral network to imagine what Bishkek might look like in the future.
The project will be financed by independent investors, with no public funding involved, authorities underlined.
This isn’t the first time Japanese architects have worked on master plans for Central Asian cities. In the early 2000s, Kisho Kurokawa developed such a project for Astana.
