Kazakhstani service members will participate in a military parade in Moscow marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is expected to observe them from the podium on Red Square.

Troops from the 37th Panfilov Air Assault Brigade will march in Moscow’s Red Square on May 9.

The service members have already arrived in Russia. During their visit, they toured the Panfilov’s Guardsmen Museum in Volokolamsk and traveled to the village of Nelidovo, where they commemorated fallen soldiers buried in a mass grave. The memorial honors a Red Army infantry unit named after Soviet Gen. Ivan Panfilov, which is remembered for helping delay the German advance on Moscow during Operation Barbarossa.

President Tokayev will also attend the parade. Earlier, he stated that Kazakhstan would hold its Victory Day celebrations on May 7 and 8.

«After our internal events are completed, I will fly to Moscow,» Tokayev said.

Leaders of other Central Asian nations — Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan — are also expected to attend the event.

Notably, Tokayev attended Moscow’s Victory Day parades in both 2023 and 2024.

On May 7, Astana will host its first military parade in five years to mark Victory Day. The parade will coincide with the Defender of the Fatherland Day.
