Kazakhstan has been gradually becoming a more popular destination for Chinese travelers. Over the past five years, the influx of tourists from this country has risen ninefold, making the Chinese the second-biggest group of foreigners staying in Kazakhstan’s hotels, as reported by Kazakh Tourism.
In 2024, more than 650,000 guests from China visited Kazakhstan, while local hotels and other accommodation facilities reported a 66% increase in the number of Chinese customers (174,000), compared to 2023.
Kazakhstan strives to attract as many Chinese tourists as possible. For instance, the country took part in the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF 2025), presenting classic tourist routes and new tourism products for those who prefer nature, culture, shopping or business travel.
Furthermore, Kazakh authorities plan to build a new road from the border with China to Lake Markakol, a unique body of water in the Katon Karagay nature reserve in the East Kazakhstan region.
In turn, Chinese tourists tend to travel to Kazakhstan as the country offers a visa-free regime, new direct flights and actively promotes itself in China. Last year, for example, Kazakh Tourism organized more than 30 events in the neighboring country and plans to conduct 16 more this year.
