Kazakhstan’s National Guard, the country’s internal security force, is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) to identify psychological issues among its servicemen. A recent meeting at the high command headquarters showcased an AI-driven system for adaptive psychological testing.

Kairat Umbetov, deputy commander-in-chief of the National Guard, emphasized that modern technology is opening up new possibilities for mental health care in Kazakhstan. He noted that the AI system would enable early detection of emotional distress, helping to prevent its escalation.

«We aim to create an effective early warning system, ensuring that every serviceman can receive timely help and support,» Umbetov said.

The system, developed by Yergali Mabiyev, features a hybrid architecture that adapts its questions based on the subject’s responses. This design reduces redundant questions and focuses on critical areas, leading to more accurate assessments compared to traditional methods.

To ensure data security, the system will be deployed locally on military unit servers. A pilot project is set to begin with recruits at a garrison in Astana.

The AI-driven approach is expected to enhance the mental well-being of National Guardsmen and foster a healthier psychological environment within military units.
