According to Alexey Lee, the founder of the Kazakhstani online supermarket Arbuz.kz and CEO of Freedom Lifestyle Group, Freedom is testing drones designed to deliver various goods. On social media, he recently posted a video of an operator controlling a drone as it picked up cargo and flew it from one point to another.

Lee believes that the gap in delivery options between cities and villages is drastic. For instance, medicine delivery within the city is a matter of 20 minutes, whereas a villager must often travel tens of kilometers to the nearest pharmacy, frequently through challenging weather conditions and poor roads.

«Drone manufacturing is a stand-alone market with already established players. That is why we test equipment from both DJI and niche manufacturers. Our team travels to the steppe daily for testing and has gathered a wealth of insights (more about them on Freddomlabs.kz). However, we don’t focus solely on hardware. We aim to shape the supporting infrastructure by establishing a network of takeoff sites, building control centers and organizing big data processing. It’s a lot of work, but we’re ready to invest all the resources this task requires. That’s why we continue to reinforce our team with professional enthusiasts. So, engineers, project managers, logistics specialists — you are all welcome!» he wrote on Instagram.

Lee also revealed that last December, Freedom Holding Corp. CEO Timur Turlov shared the idea of enabling villagers to order essential items such as food, medicine and more online and receive them quickly via drone-powered delivery. This is how Freedom X was born: a laboratory working on moonshot projects aimed at driving Kazakhstan’s technological development and digital sovereignty, while also enhancing Freedom’s innovative capabilities.

On May 23, during the nFactorial podcast, Lee confirmed that Kazakhstanis would see delivery drones in action within the next few years.
