Qalam launches digital media for children and teenagers in Kazakhstan

On June 1, QalamBalam, a new educational media project for children and teenagers aged 7 to 16, was launched in Kazakhstan. This is a digital media outlet that helps children better understand history, science, culture and society through short and engaging videos. The content is designed to complement the school curriculum and help children expand their knowledge beyond standard requirements.
The project was developed by the Qalam team, a well-known educational resource dedicated to the history and culture of Kazakhstan, Central Asia and the Turkic world. QalamBalam is available on popular platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, where children often spend their free time. Videos in Kazakh and Russian explain complex topics with scientific accuracy and in an engaging manner. Here, children can gain knowledge about the structure of the universe, the life of ancient cities, the mystery of the Golden Man and the fact that sharks lived in Central Asia millions of years ago.
One of the project’s formats is a historical video textbook. Each topic, even the most complex, is covered here in just 5 minutes. This is not just a retelling of textbooks, but a unique approach to learning designed specifically for teenagers.
«There are more than 6.8 million children under 17 in Kazakhstan, of which over 3 million belong to the Alpha generation. There is almost no quality educational content for them that is both interesting and accessible. We want to inspire children to ask questions, be curious about the world, and not be afraid to learn new things,» the QalamBalam team said.
Scientists, teachers and journalists are involved in the project. In the future, QalamBalam plans to create the largest video library of knowledge for young people in the region and build a community of young researchers. QalamBalam is available on TikTok (@qalambalamqaz and @qalambalam) and YouTube (@QalamBalamQaz and @QalamBalam).
