Five golds for Kazakhstan: Boxers dominate at prestigious Thailand Open

Kazakhstani boxers made a strong statement at the 2025 Thailand Open, claiming five gold medals on the final day of competition. The prestigious international tournament, held in Bangkok from May 24 to June 1, featured 186 athletes from 17 countries and is considered one of Asia’s premier boxing events.
In the men’s division, Torekhan Sabyrkhan (70 kg) and Dias Molzhigitov (80 kg) won gold for Kazakhstan. Sabyrkhan defeated his Uzbek opponent by judges’ unanimous decision, while Molzhigitov earned a 4-1 victory over a Chinese fighter.
In the women’s division, Kazakhstan added three more gold medals courtesy of Viktoriya Grafeyeva (60 kg), Natalia Bogdanova (70 kg) and Yeldana Talipova (+80 kg). Bogdanova won by unanimous decision against a Chinese opponent, while Grafeyeva and Talipova secured victories over competitors from China and India with scores of 4-1 and 3-2, respectively.
Nadezhda Ryabets (75 kg) and Gulsaya Yerzhan (80 kg) earned silver medals after falling in their final bouts to boxers from Uzbekistan and China.
Bronze medals went to Nurzat Ongarov (50 kg), Nursultan Altynbek (55 kg), Dulat Bekbauov (65 kg), Bekzat Tanatar (85 kg) and Daniyar Rakhymberdinov (90 kg).
The Thailand Open featured 20 sets of medals across 10 weight categories for both men and women.
Kazakhstan’s 20-member squad ended the tournament with a total of 12 medals: five gold, two silver and five bronze. In the overall medal table, Kazakhstan took second place behind Uzbekistan, which won five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals. Host nation Thailand placed third with three gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
Earlier, Kursiv.media reported that Kazakh boxers dominated the 2025 ASBC U22 & Youth Men’s and Women’s Asian Boxing Championships in Colombo, Sri Lanka, claiming an impressive 41 out of 50 gold medals across U19 and U22 age divisions.
