Volkswagen to launch car production in Uzbekistan

German automotive giant Volkswagen has announced plans to begin car production in Uzbekistan in partnership with UzAvtosanoat, the state-owned holding company that oversees the country’s car manufacturing sector. The news was shared by Martin Sander, a member of Volkswagen’s management board responsible for sales and service, via his LinkedIn page.
Sander noted that rising incomes in Uzbekistan have made the country ripe for growth in the automotive industry. He said the Volkswagen brand is particularly appealing to middle-class consumers seeking high-quality, reliable vehicles. As part of the plan, the company also intends to establish vehicle deliveries from China.
«At the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Uzbekistan is a place that we can serve effectively and efficiently through Volkswagen China,» Sander wrote. «The proximity of our Chinese technology and manufacturing base will benefit customers greatly and will enable us to minimize our logistical carbon footprint too.»
He also emphasized Uzbekistan’s rapidly growing population, noting that this demographic shift will drive demand for reliable personal transportation.

Additionally, Sander highlighted Volkswagen’s diverse lineup — such as eight stylish sedans and spacious SUVs — as a strong fit for the needs of the Uzbek market.
Overall, the Central Asian region is experiencing rapid growth in automobile demand. Previous reporting by Kursiv.media highlighted that Orbis Kazakhstan plans to launch a new car manufacturing facility in Almaty to produce vehicles of the Chinese brand Kaiyi.
Meanwhile, another Kazakhstani automaker, Astana Motors, is preparing to begin assembly of the Haval Jolion, a popular SUV from Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor. Sixty percent of the vehicles produced at the new facility, Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan plant, will be exported to other Central Asian countries and Russia. With an annual production capacity of 90,000 vehicles, the plant also plans to manufacture models from additional Chinese brands, including Chery, Changan and Tank.
