Astana eyes 10G internet rollout

Chinese Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan and the Astana city administration have signed an agreement to launch a pilot project for testing ultra-fast 10G internet connection using 50G PON technology, as reported by Kazakh Invest.
The signing ceremony took place today during the China-Central Asia Industrial and Investment Cooperation Forum in Astana. The agreement envisions the introduction of cutting-edge telecommunication solutions in the capital.
10G is a wired broadband service designed for homes and offices, offering speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second. Unlike 4G or 5G, the «10» refers to speed, not a generational standard. This type of internet delivers ultra-fast connectivity with low latency and highly stable performance.
This is a new technology already being piloted in several countries, including the U.S., China, Japan, South Korea, the U.K., France and Germany.
Among previous internet-related initiatives, several satellite internet projects stand out. Last week, SpaceX signed an agreement with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry to comply with local regulations while providing Starlink-powered satellite internet — a major step toward opening the service to the general public.
Among earlier achievements, in January, Kazakhstan’s national railway company launched a satellite internet connection powered by another provider — British-based Eutelsat OneWeb — on the Astana-Almaty train, enabling stable internet access on the 17-hour journey.
