Freedom Insurance has conducted a study on how drivers’ zodiac signs affect their driving style, increasing the risk of accidents. Geminis turned out to be anti-leaders in terms of accident rate.

How zodiac signs affect driving style

To determine the most aggressive zodiac signs, experts analyzed the three-year statistics for insured vehicles. Despite astrology’s popularity, underwriters noted that a driver’s zodiac sign doesn’t directly affect their road behavior. However, the findings are quite interesting.

Over a million drivers insured their vehicles with Freedom Insurance from January 2021 to December 2023. The highest number of drivers were Geminis (164,100 people), followed by Aries (160,800 people) and Leos (159,400 people). At the same time, Geminis also reported the most accidents — 1,548. The second place in this anti-ranking is held by Aquarians (1,493 cases), with the third being a tie between Tauruses and Capricorns (1,457 and 1,424 accidents, respectively).

Accident rating by horoscope — figures without correlation

At first glance, it might appear that the stars indeed affect driving style. However, experts at Freedom Insurance emphasize that the variation in accident frequency does not exceed 1%. Furthermore, the anti-leaders tend to change across different months, proving that astrology cannot be used as a tool to analyze accident risk rates.

The insurance company believes that the accident rate is primarily influenced by the driver’s behavior on the road, attentiveness, experience, as well as weather conditions and road quality.

Freedom Insurance CEO Azamat Kerimbayev highlighted:

«Once a person takes the wheel, following the driving regulations must be a priority, not astrology forecasts. Above all, it is important to be responsible and extremely focused.»

Therefore, the company’s statistics indicate that the accident rate is determined by a driver’s specific actions, discipline and experience — not their date of birth.

In April, Freedom Insurance revealed its list of the most accident-prone car models in 2024, the year when the total accident count reached 31,600, which was almost a two-fold increase compared to 2023.

In February, amid an MP suggesting loosening traffic legislation regarding penalties for drunk driving, the Freedom Insurance CEO spoke out against it, calling the proposal unacceptable and elaborating on the mechanisms insurance companies possess to address the issue.
